Beer, Broads & Burritos

This weekend I was lucky enough to have a little free time on my hands so I decided to spend it with some friends. And drink beer. And eat.

While the rain temporarily put a damper on things, the weather finally cleared up and we were able to enjoy some sun at a local brewery, followed by an amazing dinner at a small Mexican joint.

I should have free time more often…

June 2013 Favorites (On a Budget!)

Here is my second YouTube video…woo! I am working on a blog post to go along with this, but I figured I would go ahead and post the video. As usual, it’s super silly and ridiculous so if you’re into that sort of thing, check it out! (And if you like what you see, do me a favor and give it a thumbs up!)

And a big THANK YOU to everyone for all your support and kind words about my little blog! xo

Piperlime’s Lime Tag Sale: My Picks

I am a self-proclaimed online shopping fiend. After all, I spend most of my days working in a store…the last thing I want to do is go to another store to shop!

One of my favorite online retailers is Piperlime. They have a great, edited collection of designer and affordable pieces, so there’s something for everyone. Plus they always offer free shipping and usually have some sort of sale going on. I recently received a postcard in the mail announcing their big Lime Tag Sale. Of course I took the bait, and below is what I can’t stop thinking about:

Tops:

cn6352815Colorblocked Denim Shirt by 7 For All Mankind – A twist on the classic chambray shirt, this would look great with a pair of white or printed skinny jeans.

cn4846018Eyelet Shell Tank by Sabine –  Nothing screams summer more than a white eyelet tank. Throw it on with a pair of shorts and some flat sandals for an easy, breezy look.

cn6084912Sleeveless Button Down by Zoa –  I’ve had my eye on this top for A WHILE. As a tall girl, it’s hard to find extra long tops, and this one definitely delivers!

Bottoms:

cn6084976Tight Jean by Cheap Monday – I don’t know if I’d be bold enough to don this bright blue hue, but the color just begs to worn this summer with a white top.

cn5515673Party Tux Stripe Charmer Skinny by Sanctuary– As their name implies, these skinnies scream party to me! Pair them with a black sparkly top and get ready to have all eyes on you.

cn6366212Roxanne Skinny Jean by 7 For All Mankind – Now THIS is what I’m talking about. I love these jeans because they look just as good with a billowy cotton top as they do with a crisp button down and blazer.

Dresses:

cn6353252Pleated Leather Trim Maxi by Sabine – I love everything about this dress from the print to the length to the (faux) leather details. One look at this maxi makes me want to pack up and move to Haight-Ashubry (yes, Mom, you can come too)!

cn5826401Olie Sequin Dress by Dolce Vita – This dress combines two of my favorite colors: black and gold. AND it’s covered in sequins? I’ll take it!

cn6304341Bohemian Embroidered Dress by Sabine – As its name states, this dress has a carefree, bohemian vibe to it. It would look amazing with neutral sandals and a floral headpiece.

cn6269004Watercolor Floral Ponte Mini by Tinley Road – Isn’t the floral print on this dress a work of art? I’m sure even Monet would be inspired.

Shoes and More:

cn6437106Zena Sandal by 7 For All Mankind – What can I even say about these beauties? They are so major, I don’t even know where to begin. The pop of coral mixed with the cheetah makes me want to break into song (don’t worry, I won’t).

cn6622752 Risky Business Wedges by Seychelles – As a tall girl, I don’t wear heels as often as I should. However when I’m feeling fierce, I reach for a pair of wedges. I love the mustard color of this pair, but if you don’t, they are available in many other shades!

cn6443822Call to Action Terry Tote by Kate Spade – Leave it to Kate Spade to create the ultimate tongue-in-cheek summer tote. Take this fun carryall from the pool to a casual lunch to a day of shopping, and let your bag do the talking.

cn6069071Beaded and Jeweled Fringe Earrings by Sabine – Like the Zoa top above, I’ve been looking at these earrings for quite some time now (if you don’t believe me, check my Pinterest). You can’t go wrong with turquoise and these have enough glitz and shine to dress up even the most basic of outfits.

Hopefully these picks inspired you to pick up a new top, dress, or just pull out an old pair of earrings you haven’t worn in a while. And if you didn’t see anything in this post to suit you, hop on over to Piperlime and check out their Lime Tag Sale for yourself!

Wednesday Words

I know I could l use a little inspiration every now and then. Whether we’re struggling with relationships, finances, or just figuring out what we’re meant to do, we all deal with our own issues.

I’ve decided to start a new section of my blog entitled “Wednesday Words” to share something I found inspirational, motivating, or simply beautiful.

Today’s words are some of my favorites:

photoWhat would you do if you were not afraid? Personally, I would quit my job, move to a new city, and start a life there.

So, I ask you…what would you do if you were not afraid? Feel free to share your responses in the comments section below. And if you’re unsure of your answer, check out whatwouldyoudoifyouwerentafraid.com.

And I promise next week’s Wednesday Words won’t be quite so long-winded!

Haul+Review: Benefit’s FakeUp and More!

I recently splurged on some Benefit products (luckily, I had some coupons–if you’ve seen this post, you know I’m a smart shopper!) and since I’m a sucker for reading reviews, I had to post a little something for all of you! Read on and enjoy (unless you want to see this in video form, then click here):

FakeUp : First of all, let me say the packaging on this little concealer is divine. The silver tube and vintage typeface are so chic and classy that I actually wouldn’t mind applying makeup in public (which I don’t enjoy, by the way…)! Although I’m in love with the packaging, I’m not sure about the actual product that’s contained in it. FakeUp is a revolutionary product from Benefit: it’s an under eye concealer cleverly concealed (get it?) in a moisturizing tube. Simply apply the product right to your under eye area and blend with your fingers to deposit some moisture and a little coverage. Sound good? I thought so too. However if you’re like me and have oily skin, this product feels a little heavy and greasy. In fact, it made me feel even oilier than I already am. I like the concept though and everyone could use a little extra moisture around their eyes so I haven’t completely given up on this product.

IMG_2819Boi-ing : I originally ordered this because I didn’t want to shell out the cash for yet another Clé de Peau concealer. After doing some research, I finally decided to give Boi-ing a try, and I am SO glad I did! I really prefer cream concealers and this one is definetly a keeper. I ordered it in Shade 02 (I wear Beige in Clé de Peau for reference) and it matches my skin very well. You can easily apply the product using your fingers or use a concealer brush for more precision. But whatever method you choose, you’ll have no problem covering anything from under eye circles to those pesky zits that always show up at the most inconvenient times.

Erase Paste : Going along with the concealer theme of this haul is Erase Paste. It’s packaged similarly to Boi-ing but has brightening undertones in it to help conceal even the darkest of under eye circles. Unlike Boi-ing, I prefer to apply this with my fingers although it does come with a cute little spatula. It can be used by itself, but for maximum eye brightening/dark circle concealing apply it over Boi-ing. It really adds an extra pop of brightness and coverage to make even the worse insomniac look like Mary freaking Sunshine. IMG_2817

IMG_2820The POREfessional : I’ve been using this product for quite a while and I don’t know what I did without it! Applied after moisturizer, this oil-free primer makes skin look soft and smooth and ready for your foundation or moisturizing tint. I noticed that once I began using this product I started getting compliments on my skin ALL THE TIME! Try it out for yourself–you’ll be glad you did!

What are your favorite products to splurge on? Tell me below in the comments section or tweet me with the hashtag #thattallgirlbeauty !

What I’m Loving: Boho Jewelry

If asked, I usually say my style is classic chic with a hint of hippie mixed in. However, when the temperature starts to rise, my hippie side definitely comes out to play. One of my favorite ways to bring out my inner hippie is through jewelry. In fact, nothing makes me happier than throwing on a basic black outfit with some feather earrings or a major turquoise necklace to really make a statement.

Here are a few boho pieces I’m currently lusting after (click on any image to see more):

What I’m Loving: Tieks

If you know me, you know I love a good shoe. And now that the steamy days of summer are (for the most part) behind us, I’ve happily broken out my non-sandal footwear and rediscovered my favorites: Tieks ballet flats!

Available in almost every color imaginable (and even a print or two!) these versatile shoes literally work with everything in my wardrobe. They’re a bit of a splurge I’ll admit, but I treated myself to the Camel pair (at left) and the Cardinal Red pair (below) last Christmas and I haven’t regretted it one bit! By the way I used a coupon Tieks posted on their Facebook page so go “Like” them and keep an eye out for deals…also check out this post for more tips to score deals online.

My favorite thing about Tieks? They’re just so darn COMFORTABLE! As someone who is literally on her feet  all day (oh the joys of working retail :P ) I can put them on first thing in the morning and I’m still going strong when it’s time to clock out and head home.

As I mentioned, they really do go with everything! At work, I pair them with skinny black pants and a flowy top, then I can throw on some jeans and an army jacket for weekend wear, and then pair them with a dress for a dinner out.

The possibilities really are endless. And each pair has Tieks’ signature robin’s egg blue sole which brightens up even the dullest of outfits (for a fun look, I like to match the blue color to a sweater or shirt…it makes the color pop even more).

And if I haven’t raved about my Tieks enough, I just love the company! When my Tieks arrived I found a handwritten, personalized note from them thanking me for my purchase and wishing me well. When is the last time a company did that for you? How about never?! I tweeted Tieks right away saying how pleased I was and they actually responded.

And guess what? I still have the note they sent! How’s that for customer loyalty?

So if you’re looking for some cute, comfortable shoes that will work with everything in your closet, do yourself a favor and get a pair (or two!) of Tieks. Oh and in case you’re wondering, my next pair will be these Leopard Print beauties…I guess I better start saving!

My Top Three (Affordable) Shoes for Fall

If you know me at all, you know I love shopping for great, affordable pieces. What you may not know is that I’m a shoe addict. For me, comfort is key, and I’ve definitely kept that in mind while updating my shoe wardrobe for fall.

So here are my top three affordable (and comfortable!) gotta-have shoes for fall. And they’re all from one of my favorite stores EVER: Target. (Seriously, I’ve been there three times in the last three days and I’m probably going there tomorrow. Support group anyone?)

1.  Oxfords

These cute, comfy oxfords are an excellent twist on the menswear trend…the twist being the cute pink sole! They’re the perfect balance of masculine and feminine–and to play up your femininity, pair it with a floaty dress or skirt. I’ll probably be wearing mine with skinny black pants and sweaters to work this fall.

2. Ankle booties

These shoes are all over the place…and I’m not complaining! I’ve been lusting after my own pair to wear with skinny jeans this fall, and I found just the right pair at Target (at the right price!). I’ll also consider wearing these beauties with dresses when I’m feeling a bit bold!

3. Moccasins

Now these aren’t your typical Pocahontas-inspired, fringey, beaded moccasins. They’re a bit more polished and modern which makes them very versatile. They’re also so comfortable and I’m looking forward to wearing them with casual pieces like jeans, tees, and cardigans. To dress things up a bit, I’ll pair some bold jewelry with them to make things more interesting.

I’m sure these won’t be the only three pairs of shoes I purchase for fall, but they’re a great start. Now all I need to do is sit back and wait for the leaves to start falling!

How to Keep it Natural and Pretty

I’ll admit that when it comes to makeup, I’m a bit of a hoarder. But that doesn’t mean I like to pile on foundation, mascara, and lipstick on a daily basis. Most days, I prefer to keep my look simple and natural looking.

However, just because you’re rocking the natural look, you can still look put together and pretty with a few easy steps. Below is a step-by-step guide to take your look from plain to polished.

  1. Perfect your canvas. In order for this look to work, your skin needs to be flawless.  If you’re a foundation user, apply and blend, blend, blend! Next, cover any dark under eye circles and blemishes with concealer. Once you’re done with concealer, lightly dust powder all over, concentrating on your T-zone.
  2. Highlight your features. For extra impact and dimension, highlighting is key. Using a powder brush, dust highlighting shimmer along your temples and under eyebrows. Then apply the same highlighter to your cupid’s bow above your lip to add extra impact to your pout.
  3. Emphasize the eyes. Line the inner rim of your lower and upper eyes with a brown pencil eyeliner. If you feel the need for a little more makeup, dust a shimmery eye shadow that is one to two shades darker than your skin tone on your lids. Next, curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara.
  4. Add some flushed cheeks.  This step is very important because it’ll bring a little bit of life to your face. Using a foundation brush (or even your fingers if you prefer!), apply a rosy cream blush to the apples of your cheeks.
  5. Gloss it up! To make sure your lips are soft and smooth, run a wet washcloth over your lips. Then apply a sheer rosy lip gloss. Don’t forget to take some with you for on-the-go touchups!

This look is one of my favorites not only because it looks great, but it’s also perfect for those mornings that you don’t have much time. With these five steps, you’ll be able to roll out of bed and look fabulous in no time!

New Year? Yes. New Me? We’ll See…

To do or not to do…that’s the question on my mind. I’ve been thinking a lot about the new year and whether or not I want to make any resolutions. Now, I’m typically a cynical person who doesn’t believe in making resolutions because a) I don’t really see the point, b) it shouldn’t take putting up a new calendar to better yourself and c) most people don’t stick to their resolutions anyway.

But after the year I’ve had, I’m thinking I might break tradition and make some resolutions of my own, and actually try to stick to them! So, in no particular order, here are my New Year’s resolutions:

  1. Save $$$. This really goes without saying, but I definitely need to be more careful with my money this year. As you could probably have guessed from my previous post, I’m a sucker for online shopping. I get those damn emails on a daily basis offering me coupons and free gifts with purchase and I’m not gonna take it anymore! I’ve taken to unsubscribing to almost all of them (ok, I’ll be honest, some of the emails feature really cute clothes…they can stay) and saving as much as possible. Saving all this money will allow me to do some much-needed traveling…and if a vintage Louis Vuitton cross body bag happens to end up in my closet, I’ll know I worked hard for my money and it’s okay to splurge every now and then. Just as long as it’s not every week.
  2. Be healthier. Yes, I know every other person in the world makes this their resolution but still…it needs to happen. I’ll admit I’ve never been one of those girls to sit around complaining that I’m fat, because honestly I don’t think I am. But lately I’ve been slacking on working out and eating right. So from now on, I’ll be skipping the pizza and burritos and going back to salads, whole grain pasta, and fish. And even though the weather’s getting colder, I’m going to try and get out for a jog when I can stand it. If not, there’s always workout DVDs and free weights for use inside. Luckily I just picked up a sweet pair of Nikes…on sale! How’s that for saving money? ;)
  3. Be a bigger bitch. Now I know that sounds bad, but let me explain. I always feel like I’m “the nice girl”–always understanding, easygoing, and okay with things. That sometimes leads to being taken advantage of, broken hearts, and feeling bad about myself because I let people walk all over me. This year, I’m going to make an effort to do things my way, not take shit from people, and stand up for myself. And if that makes me a bitch, so be it.
So those are my top three resolutions for 2012. Do you think I can handle them? Actually it doesn’t really matter if you do or not, because the world’s ending this year anyway. So live it up while you can everybody…life is too short to wait!
