My Random July Favorites

I say “random” because my July favorites are a mixture of all kinds of things…beauty, fashion, books, etc. Get ready and read on!

5001. Pantene Pro-V Ice Shine Shampoo and Conditioner–I’ll be honest: I’m no hair care expert. However, I do like trying out different shampoos and conditioners. But no matter what brand I try, I always come back to Pantene Pro-V’s Ice Shine collection. First of all, I l-o-v-e the way it makes my hair smell. Seriously, sometimes I’ll be walking around and just grab a piece of my hair and smell it. Yeah, I’m weird. I know. And secondly, the conditioner is amazing. I have fine hair so I am careful with my conditioners…this one is not too light and not too heavy. It’s juuuuuust right!

2. Bath & Body Works Signature Collection Shower Gel in Wild Peach Poppies –I picked this up recently during Bath & Body Works’ big sale. Originally priced at $11.00 (um, ridiculous), I got it for under $3.00 and it smells AMAZING! This fragrance isn’t available on their website, but if you have a B&BW near you, I suggest you get down there and look for this!

under-the-dome-art3Under the DomeI’m not a big TV-watcher but I heard good things about this show so I decided to check it out. Based on a Stephen King book, the series follows several characters living in a small town that has been trapped under a mysterious dome. Seemingly sane townspeople start losing their minds, secrets are revealed, and everyone does what they feel is necessary to stay alive. It’s got some gruesome scenes, but if you can get past that, you’ll be on the edge of your seat!

4. The Fame Game by Lauren Conrad–As someone who grew up watching Lauren Conrad on Laguna Beach and The Hills, it makes sense that I’m reading this book, the second in Conrad’s spinoff series about the business of reality TV. Is it highbrow literature that will leave you with a sense of pride when you finish reading it? No. Is it a fun, frothy summer read full of juicy drama that will leave you wanting more? Oh, yeahhh!

5. Target Soy Candles–There’s nothing more annoying than buying a candle that smells amazing only to realize you can hardly smell anything when it’s burning. That’s why I was so excited when I discovered these candles at Target! I first tried out the smaller version in Sweet Spun Sugar and loved it so much I went back and purchased Red Velvet Cupcake in the same size. They both smell amazing and are just strong enough to be noticed. I definitely recommend them!

Weekend Vacation Haul

This weekend I was lucky enough to get out of town for a while and go on a girls trip. It was a much needed getaway and in addition to taking in some cultural activities, I did some shopping. Of course.

The first thing I had to do was hit Target. I love going to familiar stores in different cities because they sometimes have different brands and products. And, let’s be honest, I won’t miss any opportunity to go to Target! I picked up some great cheapie/drugstore products including:

Elf Tone Correcting Powder: I saw a review of this on YouTube and it seemed like a really cool product. This brand isn’t carried at my local Target, and for $3, I couldn’t pass it up!

Elf All Over Color Stick in Pink Lemonade: I’m so into stick blushes right now and this is a bright, pretty pink that looks great with a tan (if I ever get one). Plus the cream formula is a cinch to apply.

NYC In a New York Color Minute Nail Polish in Central Park: I already own this in Water Street Blue so once I saw this color I snatched it up. It’s a really pretty nude with a touch of rose gold in it to make it a little more interesting.

NYC Smooth Skin Loose Face Powder: I’ve been using pressed powder for a while now and have been wanting to go back to using a loose powder. This particular one is translucent so I don’t have to worry about it matching my skin tone. If you do decide to try this, just be careful…it can be a little messy!

In addition to makeup, I picked up a couple fashion items. I couldn’t pass up going to Nordstrom to check out their Anniversary Sale. While I didn’t find any clothing, I came across a beautiful Aztec print scarf that I’m currently OBSESSED with. I wore it all around the stores for the rest of the day and even threw it in my bag for our night out…just in case!

Next up, the store we all want to live in but could never afford to: ANTHROPOLOGIE! And what do I find? A top I’ve had my eye on for a while. ON SALE. Done and done. It’s perfect for summertime and will look great in the fall layered with a scarf and cozy cardigan.

I also hit up Sephora to try out a few products I’ve been lusting after (Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara and Hourglass’ Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation…if you’ve tried them, let me know what you think in the comments section please!) and came across a cute travel manicure kit on clearance. Once I saw the crazy hologram case it came in, I bought it right then and there!

All in all, I think I did pretty well! I’m headed to New Orleans a week from today (woo!) so hopefully I’ll find some great pieces there as well…stay tuned!

P.S. How cute and colorful is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale bag? I couldn’t resist snapping a pic!

My Light & Natural Face Makeup Routine

One of my favorite things (besides bacon) is when people tell me I look like I’m not wearing any makeup. Because even though I’ve been obsessed with makeup since middle school, I don’t like to wear tons of it. For me, light and natural is the name of the game!

Since I am constantly being asked what makeup I use, I thought I’d share my face makeup routine. I’ve been using most of these products for a while now and they make a great base for any look!
First thing’s first: primer! After cleansing and moisturizing, I always apply a face primer. It fills in any pores and fine lines and makes my skin look and feel incredibly smooth. I’m a big fan of Benefit’s The POREfessional which you can find out more about in this post and video.

IMG_3007After you’re all primed, the next step is foundation to even everything out. During the summer months I definitely prefer lighter coverage. To achieve that, I reach for Jouer’s Matte Moisture Tint and apply it with Tarte’s Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush (try it–it’s amazing!). If I feel like I need a bit more coverage, I’ll mix in some of Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation.

Once everything is evened out, it’s time for my favorite step: concealer! Yes, I’ve turned into a bit of a concealer junkie. Don’t. Judge. I usually attack my undereye circles first using either Benefit’s boi-ing or MAC’s Prolongwear Concealer. If I REALLY look tired, I’ll pop a little bit of Benefit’s Erase Paste under my eyes to brighten things up. Then if there are any imperfections that my foundation may have missed, I go after that with my concealer using
either a concealer brush or just my fingers.

OK, so now your face looks absolutely perfect. And you don’t want all that hard work to go to waste, do you? Don’t forget to set everything with a light dusting of powder! Whether you choose pressed or loose powder, this is the final step to make sure everything stays pretty and put all day long. My go-to face powder is Mark Powder Buff but I sometimes use a translucent powder…it just depends! PROD_1138556_XL Now that I’ve spilled all my secrets, tell me some of yours! What are your favorite face products? What is your face makeup routine like? Tell me in the comments section!

P.S. Does anyone want to see a video of this? I might be into it…

One Year Ago Today…

Ok, I lied. It was really one year ago yesterday. But I was really busy yesterday so I didn’t get a chance to post this. But we can all just use our imaginations.

Anyways…one year ago (yesterday) I made one of my life’s dreams come true: I took myself to Europe! To celebrate that trip, the amazing people I met, and the memories I’ll have for a lifetime, here are some fun photos:

Wednesday Words

Keep it in perspective.

perspectiveLet’s face it: everyone has their problems. Whether you feel stuck in a job you hate (yup), you’ve recently been dumped (uh huh) or it seems like everyone around you is getting their lives together (oh yeah), there are some people out their with much bigger issues.

I’ve had the privilege of going on several mission trips and working with various charities, and trust me, things are definitely not as bad you think they are. Some people out there struggle to put food on the table, buy a winter coat, or live in a safe, clean house.

So the next time you’re feeling down and it feels like nothing is going your way, take a second and think about how amazing your life really is. And be grateful!

Re-Review: Benefit’s FakeUp

While I already have a post and video mentioning Benefit’s FakeUp, I thought I would re-review it since I have been using it for a while now. In case you missed my other post (go read it, by the way!), FakeUp is a fairly new product from Benefit. It’s marketed as a hydrating, crease-control concealer and is basically a stick moisturizer wrapped around a concealer (I promise it’s not as complicated as it sounds).

When I first purchased this product, I’ll admit I was a little skeptical. As someone with pretty oily skin, I was hesitant to put something so moisturizing on my face. However, after seeing many reviews and videos about it, I decided to give it a try as an under-eye concealer. I’m all about my eye creams and have been on the hunt for the perfect under-eye concealer, so I figured this little product might solve all my problems!

IMG_2818FakeUp comes in three shades: light, medium, and deep. Since we’re all obsessed with brightening our under-eye area, I decided to order the light shade. I probably could have used medium, but I’m still pleased with the light color.

First of all, this product is a breeze to apply: just swipe it on your skin and pat it in with your ring finger. While I wouldn’t call it a full-coverage concealer, it could definetely be used on its own if you don’t have an issue with dark under-eye circles. However, I like to layer Benefit’s boi-ing concealer on top for a little more coverage.

Ironically, the thing I was most worried about with this concealer (the moisturizer) is my favorite thing about it! It makes my eye area feel so soft and smooth. I’ve even gone without my eye cream a time or two because it is so moisturizing!

Although I would still be hesitant to use FakeUp anywhere but under my eyes, if you’re on the fence about this product, I say try it. Like me, you might be pleasantly surprised!
