October Favorites!

Happy Halloween! I hope you are all having a spooky, scary, fun day!

October has been a crazy month for me. One big thing that happened is I became unemployed! I really needed a break from the environment I was working in and am now eager to spend more time with my family and friends, and of course, have more time to blog!

So, in no particular order, here are my October Favorites:

Lip Gloss Tins: If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know I’m a sucker for any kind of lip product. I’ve amassed a nice collection of lip gloss tins and I absolutely love them! They smell amazing, leave your lips with a subtle shine, and are extremely easy to apply on-the-go. Plus they can be used on cuticles or dry skin in a pinch!

Fuzzy Slippers: It’s finally starting to feel like fall around here, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to break out my favorite fuzzy slippers! They may look atrocious, but they’re super warm and comfy, and they make me feel a little like my girl Ke$ha. Check out some similar ones here.

Wet ‘n Wild Mega Glo Illuminating Powder in Catwalk Pink: If you saw my “Drugstore Beauty Haul” a few days ago, you know I just picked this little guy up. Technically I haven’t used this product the entire month of October, but I just couldn’t resist including it in my Favorites. I’ve used it every single day since I purchased it either all-together as a blush/bronzer, or using the colors separately as an eye shadow, highlighter, or blush. It’s definitely a great multi-tasking product to have on hand! Plus you can’t beat the price!

Arm & Hammer SpinBrush Pro Sensitive Electric Toothbrush: I know this is kind of boring, but just go with me. Taking care of your teeth is important! My dentist recommended an electric toothbrush to me, and this one was right in my budget. Ever since I started using it, my dentist has commented on how good my teeth look. I prefer the Sensitive version of this toothbrush, but there are several other options including ProWhitening, ClassicClean, and Sonic.

Pretty Little Liars: I’ve been watching this show from the beginning, but with all the downtime I have now, I started re-watching all the episodes. So it’s not the best acting, and the story lines are a little lot ridiculous, but it’s so addictive and every episode keeps me guessing. Plus I adore the clothes, hair, and makeup the cast wears!

What are your favorites from the month of October? Leave me a link to your Favorites list in the Comments section…with all this extra free time I have, I’ll need something to do!

Hello Kitty Pumpkin Carving Tutorial

If you’re a procrastinator like me, you’ve probably waited until the last minute to pick up a pumpkin to carve for Halloween this year.

I ended up finding one of the last good pumpkins in town yesterday, and as I was trying to decide what to carve on said pumpkin, one thing kept popping into my head: Hello Kitty! Because who says Halloween has to be all scary and spooky? Why not have a little bit of girly fun, too?

So, if you’re still trying to decide what to carve on your last-minute pumpkin, here’s how to do a Hello Kitty pumpkin carving:

1. Pick a pumpkin and clean out all the seeds and gross stuff from inside. This is my least favorite part.

2. Find a design you like. For me, simplicity is key. But if you’re up for a more intricate design, go for it. I found the stencil below right here.

3. Tape the stencil on your pumpkin–try to make it as flat as possible. Using a sharp tool, dot along the interior and exterior of the pattern (all the black lines).

4. Once you’ve dotted all around the stencil, remove the paper. Your pumpkin should look a little like this:

5. Get carving! Don’t be afraid to take your time! And you may need to use several different kinds of tools/knives. A small, serrated knife works well on the curves of this pattern.

6. Once you’ve cut all the way around the pattern, feel free to go back and fix any areas that may not be right. Your pumpkin should look a bit like this:

7. Pop a candle in and enjoy!

Drugstore Beauty Haul

Recently I ended up with a nice little assortment of coupons for CVS. Naturally, I decided to use them on a few beauty items. Here’s what I picked up:

1. Wet ‘n Wild Mega Glo Illuminating Powder in Catwalk Pink: The pretty pink and bronze colors in this product really caught my eye. It creates a beautiful, natural looking blush, but can also be used all over your face and body. Plus, this is a great multi-tasking product. The bronze color looks great as an eye shadow, the lightest shade can be used alone as a highlighter, and the pink colors make a pretty, rosy blush color!

2. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait: As someone who owns TONS of lip products (I know I’m not alone), I usually try to resist buying more. However, this product is a little different than the dozen (ok, two dozen) glosses and balms I already own. It looks like lipstick, but offers a more sheer, buildable color payoff. And it offers plenty of shine–perfect for a lip glossaholic like me. I’m already planning on picking up a few more colors!

3. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Gloss in Rosepearl: Yes, I know I just said I try not to buy lip products, but all the Revlon product were buy one, get one 50% off, so you know I had to pick out another gloss! I’m a big fan of the ColorBurst Lip Glosses, and this is a rosy, bronzy color that I totally fell in love with. It also looks great layered over the ColorBurst Lip Butter I picked up.

4. Wet ‘n Wild Fergie Nail Polish in Tonight’s Gonna Be a Good Night: I’ve been eyeing this color for a while, but I couldn’t justify spending so much on a product by Wet ‘n Wild. However, once I saw this polish on sale for 40% off, I knew I had to get it. It’ll look great layered over a dark or nude polish.

5. NYC In a New York Color Minute Nail Polish in Manhattan: I’ve mentioned this line of nail polish in a previous post, and it was also 40% off. This particular shade is a dark plum color (my favorite!) that was made for the fall season! I’m already rocking it on my nails and I absolutely love it!

6. Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat: I’ve raved about this product before, so being able to buy it with coupons was a no-brainer–thanks, CVS!

Have you tried any of these products? What are some of your favorite drugstore beauty products?

Weekend Shots

Although I’ve been fighting a bit of a cold this weekend, I still managed to get out and have a little bit of fun. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the weekend, courtesy of my Instagram account:

I couldn’t resist snapping a pic of the beautiful fall sky after my workout on the track.

Packed up an old friend!

Splurged on some frozen yogurt (hey, I had a coupon)!

Had playtime with a cute, furry friend (P.S. if you like puppy pics, check out Puppy Palace on Instagram)

I hope you all had a great weekend and are feeling better than I am at the moment!

October Birchbox!

I absolutely love seeing what everyone else gets in their Birchboxes, so I thought it was time to share what I got in my October Birchbox. This month’s Birchbox is all about 2013’s top beauty products and trends. Some of the products I received were winners, and some just weren’t for me.

Alison Raffaele Reality Base Foundation: This is an oil-free, light coverage foundation that is full of antioxidants. I’m always on the search for the perfect foundation, so I like trying new ones. However, I don’t think this one is for me. The coverage quite isn’t quite enough, but it’ll be nice to have on hand when I’m having a particularly good skin day! I prefer my Jouer Matte Moisture Tint or L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Makeup.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser: I’m all about skin care, so I was very excited to get this in my Birchbox this month. Liz Earle is a brand from the UK that just recently became available through Birchbox, and this cleanser is one of their best-selling products. It’s creamy and leaves my skin feeling so clean and soft.

Liz Earle Pure Muslin Cloth: This cloth is meant to be used with the Liz Earle cleanser as a gentle exfoliator. Once I run out of the Liz Earle cleanser, I’ll probably continue to use it with my regular cleanser.

POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer in Flowering Fuchsia: I’m definitely a lip gloss kind of girl and I always like trying new ones. This is the first POP Beauty product I’ve ever used and I really like the consistency of this gloss. While the fuchsia color wouldn’t usually be my first choice, the color is sheer enough that it doesn’t look too pink on me. However, if I ever did want to pull off Barbie pink lips, this product is nice and buildable.

ChapStick Hydration Lock lip balm: I will openly admit that I’m a ChapStick addict. If I ever find myself in a situation without ChapStick, I don’t even know what to do with myself. Seriously. This ChapStick doesn’t work as well for me as I had hoped, but it’ll be nice to have on hand if I ever do find myself in a ChapStick-less situation (God forbid).

If you have an October Birchbox post on your blog, share it with me in the Comments section below!

What I’m Loving: Riding Boots

While the temperature down here in the South may still be in the 80s, I can feel a bit of fall in the air. And although the leaves haven’t begun to change yet, I’m eagerly anticipating the cooler weather so I can wear one of my favorite fall staples: riding boots!

One reason I love boots so much is because they seem to pull any outfit together. They work with jeans, leggings, dresses, skirts, etc. etc. and can transform even the most basic outfit into something polished.

Below are a few of my favorite boots at the moment. What are yours?

Frye Dorado Riding Boot (P.S. Check these out here for a bit of a discount!)

Steve Madden Shawny Boot (I just ordered these and they are so comfy!)

Volatile Whistler Boot (Love the unexpected navy color!)

Merona Kasia Riding Boot (a good knock-off of the Frye Melissa Button Boot)

TB_31138392_001Tory Burch Bristol Riding Boot (GORGEOUS!)

Wednesday Words

So I haven’t posted a “Wednesday Words” in a while, but I came across this photo on Instagram the other night and thought it was worth sharing:

It’s so easy (at least for me!) to get caught up in the latest products, trends and fashions that sometimes it’s easy to forget what really matters: being a good person, loving those around you, counting your blessings, etc.

Take some time today to reflect on the things that truly matter, and share some happiness with the people in your life. You’ll feel better on the inside which will definitely make you look better on the outside!
