My Top Picks from Tarte’s Flash Sale

Have you heard?

Tarte Cosmetics, one of my favorite beauty brands, is offering a two-day flash sale on many of their cult products. But before you whip out your smartphone and start filling your virtual shopping cart, check out my top product picks below.

Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette – Does packaging get more beautiful than this? I think not. Plus, the three highlighter shades inside this palette are stunning. Featuring a matte setting powder and two shimmer shades, you’ll be glowing to perfection with this set.

Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush – There’s a reason Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes are such a hit. They come in a range of flattering shades, deliver amazing pigmentation and last on the skin for hours. This particular shade is perfect for summer and will keep you looking fresh during even the hottest days.

@grav3yardgirl tarteist™ creamy matte lip paint in Texas Toast – It’s safe to say that the matte lip craze isn’t going anywhere. And while I may be more of a ChapStick and gloss girl, even I can’t resist this mauvey nude lip color. From the packaging to the applicator to the color, everything about this matte lip paint is perfection.

Don’t Quit Your Daydream Eye Shadow Palette – If I could design my perfect eye shadow palette, it would look like this one. I love the warm shades offered in this set and there are enough matte and shimmer colors to create anything from a subtle day look to a glam smoky eye.

1.Glossier Boy Brow – If you saw my Glossier review (and this post about my trip to the Glossier showroom) then this favorite is no surprise. Boy Brow is one of those rare products that’s quick and easy to use and actually delivers on its promise of giving you enviable brows. I have the shade Brown but it also comes in Blond, Black and Clear.

2. Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation—After hearing rave reviews on this foundation, I finally picked one up and there’s definitely a reason this foundation has amassed so many positive reviews. It gives full coverage but doesn’t look heavy, it has great staying power, and it’s completely affordable.

3. Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk—Are we surprised that another Glossier product made it into my May Favorites? This cream blush is another gem I picked up during my trip to the Glossier showroom and I can’t stop using it. It blends easily into the skin and the color is a beautiful bronzey, mauvey shade that works with any look. Needless to say, I’m completely obsessed with it.

4. Vans Sk8-Hi Slim Cutout DX shoes—Let’s get one thing straight—when it comes to fashion, I’m all about comfort. When I’m running around the city, the last thing I want to be worried about is whether my footwear is comfortable. These high-top Vans are super comfy and they work with any outfit. If you’re looking for a good summer sneaker, I highly recommend picking up a pair of Vans!

Glossier Haul + Mini Reviews

In my last post, I gave you a peek inside the Glossier showroom in New York City. Today, I’m sharing more about what I picked up during that excursion and my thoughts on each product.

unnamed (1)

The one Glossier product I was dying to try was the Perfecting Skin Tint. This tint offers sheer but build able coverage and I picked mine up in the shade Medium. It evens out my skin tone but I don’t look like I have a ton of makeup caked on my face.

Another hyped up Glossier product is Boy Brow and it definitely lives up to the hype. It subtly fills, shapes and grooms brows in one easy step. The shade I use is Brown but it also comes in Blond, Black and Clear. If you want a quick, simple way to make your brows look a bit more polished, you need this product in your life.

Generation G is a sheer matte lip color I spied at the showroom and ended up going home with a tube in the shade Cake. I’m more of a gloss girl so this product isn’t my favorite but I’m still glad I gave it a try. If you’re after a natural looking lip color, Generation G is for you.

Glossier’s newest addition is Cloud Paint, a gel-cream blush available in four sheer shades. I bought one in Dusk, a warm bronzey color. You can apply this product with a brush, sponge or your fingers and it lasts all day long!

What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag

If you follow That Tall Girl on Facebook, you know I’m about to head out on a fun vacation to California. While I haven’t started packing yet (ahh!) I do know what beauty products I’ll be taking with me. Read on to find out what my travel must-haves are.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation: When I’m traveling I want a foundation that’s going to cover any imperfections, look natural and last all day and into the night. This Tarte foundation does it all! Plus the packaging is super convenient and won’t end up breaking during a long trip.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: Like my foundation, I want my concealer to last while I’m out and about seeing the sights. MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer does just that while covering everything from dark circles to blemishes.

Mark Powder Buff Natural Skin Foundation: This powder is a staple in my makeup bag (as see can see in the photo above!) so I can’t leave home without it. It does double duty as a powder foundation and mattifying powder and the packaging is great for on-the-go.

Ulta Contour Kit: If you’ve read my blog in the last couple months you know how obsessed I’ve been with this contour kit from Ulta. I’ll be using the contour shades for contouring (duh), bronzer and eye shadow. The lighter, slightly shimmery shades are also great for eye shadows or highlighting.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner: Another staple, this eye liner works for any look and can be easily smoked out for a little more drama. Since I don’t want to deal with traveling with liquid liner this guy is coming with me!

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mini Mascara: I picked this up at Ulta and am so glad to have a travel friendly version of my favorite mascara. It volumizes lashes and adds the perfect amount of lash drama.

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso: I’ve raved about the Milani baked blushes before and this shade is so versatile. It makes my skin look bright and fresh and works well with any look.

August Favorites

Well, well, well here it is almost mid September and I’m finally getting around to posting my August favorites. Better late than never, right?

With my self-imposed month of “no spending”, I wasn’t able to try out many new products in August but I did rediscover a couple gems in my collection. Read on to see what I was loving during August!

mark. Good Glowing Blush in Afterglow—This product is such a throwback for me and I was excited to stumble across it in my pile of products. It’s basically a dupe for NARS Orgasm and has a subtle shimmer in it which looks amazing in the summer sun.

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Dolce Vita—If you’ve been reading my blog the last month or so, you’ll know I recently fell back in love with this gorgeous eye shadow palette. Although there are only four shadows in this palette, the amount of looks you can create is endless. If you can afford the splurge, it’s definitely a great product to have!

L’Oreal Boost It High Lift Creation Spray—As a girl with fine hair, I’m always looking for ways to pump up the volume. I recently discovered this hair product and it’s pretty awesome. All you do is spray it at the roots of your hair (or anywhere you want a little volume and texture) and you’re good to go.

Bloodline–With all the extra time I had from not shopping for makeup in August, I was able to watch a lot of Netflix. I came across a Netflix original, Bloodline, and immediately became obsessed. Set in the beautiful Florida Keys, this show is about testing family loyalties, betrayal, and plenty of secrets.

Product Review: Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso

71748982105So in my last post I mentioned how busy I’ve been and I definitely intended to blog more regularly.

And then Orange is the New Black happened…

Needless to say, I’ve been hunkered down watching that as much as possible and haven’t had much time for anything else. However, I finally made it though the whole season and I  thought I would finally sit down and write a short review about a new product I’ve been using.

I’ve been wanting to try Milani’s Baked Blush in Luminoso for a while, and when I spotted it in CVS a couple weeks ago I finally decided to take the plunge. This blush is a gorgeous peach shade with just a hint of shimmer in it.

Lately I’ve been wearing rosier blush shades, but this one is great for the summer time. It gives your cheeks a natural, sun-kissed flush that pairs well with a tan. I’d say it’s pretty pigmented so start out with just a light dusting of color–you can always build it up! Plus the fact that it’s a natural-looking blush means it works well with lots of different makeup looks.

All in all, if you’re looking to try a new blush for summertime, I highly suggest Milani’s Baked Blush in Luminoso! I’m definitely a fan and can’t wait to try out more colors from this line.

If you’ve tried this or any of the other Baked Blushes by Milani, let me know in the Comments section!

All About Brushes

As I was trying to decide what to write about next on my little blog, I realized that I talk and talk and talk about different beauty products, but I’ve never really talked about the brushes that I use to apply them. So, today’s post will be all about my most-used brushes and how I like to use them!

s1393628-main-hero1. Tarte Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush–I’m not kidding when I say that this brush (pictured at left) changed my life. I used to use a synthetic foundation brush to apply my foundation (and even a gross latex sponge back in middle school and high school) but it was not cutting it. I ordered this brush when I ordered the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation and it’s just a dream. It evenly applies my foundation and makes blending out makeup a breeze. It’s by far the most expensive brush I’ve ever owned, but it’s been totally worth it to me! For a little more info on it, check out this post.

2. Powder Brush–I use two. The first one is the Powder Brush by Mark. I’ve had it for years and I love it, but sometimes it drives me crazy. I’ve “replaced” it with the Powder Brush by Real Techniques but I still find myself reaching for it to apply loose and pressed powders and for applying bronzer when I’m not doing a lot of contouring.

3. Mark Blush + Bronzer Brush–I occasionally use this for blush or bronzer, but only when I want to concentrate color onto my cheeks. Otherwise, I use it as a blending brush to make sure my bronzer and blush are all nice and blended together and I have no harsh lines. The Mark brush is no longer available, but any flat top brush would do the trick.

4. Mark All Over Eye shadow Brush–If I could only use one eye shadow brush, this would be the one. Its shape lets me pack plenty of color onto my lid, but the rounded top lets me blend and even apply color to my crease.

5. Mark Eye Shadow Blending Brush–This brush (see below, left) is mostly used for–you guessed it–blending eye shadow. Whenever I have harsh lines from my eye shadow, I go back in with this brush and smooth everything out. It also works well for lightly applying shadow to the outer V of my eye and applying setting powder to my under eyes. This particular brush is no longer available but the Deluxe Crease Brush in this Starter Kit from Real Techniques looks pretty similar.

mark-blending-brush-profile   s1291327-main-hero

6. Mark Eyeliner Brush–As the name suggests, I use this brush when I want to use a dark shadow as eye liner on either my upper or lower lashes. The precise tip of the brush (see above, right) is great because I can easily control where the color goes.  Again, this particular brush is no longer available (I hope that doesn’t mean my brushes are gross and I need to get rid of them?!?) but this one by Mark is a great substitute that I also use.

7. Sponge Tip Brush–I love using this brush when I want to apply a highlight shade to the inner corners of my eye. It fits perfectly with the shape of my eye and I’m not worried that I’ll poke myself in the eye! I also use it to smoke out shadow on my lower lash line. I have NO idea where mine is from, but you can find them at Sephora (and probably even cheaper at Target).

While this is a list of my most-used brushes, it’s definetely not all of them. I like to play around with my brushes and try out new ways to use them.

Which brushes are your must-haves?

5 Beauty Favorites (On a Budget!)

Like many people these days, I’m trying really hard to cut back and save my money. However when it comes to beauty products, that’s easier said than done. I’ve grown skeptical of many drugstore brands but lately I’ve tried to remain open-minded and save instead of splurging on high-end products. With that theme in mind, I’ve created a list of five of my beauty favorites for those of us on a budget. Read on and save! (And if you’d like to see this in video form, click here!)

3001. Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo – This stuff is really my new best friend! It has come in handy a few times recently when I’ve been in a rush to get out the door looking halfway decent. It also doubles as a volumizer for those of us not blessed with full, thick locks.

2. Suave Kids Detangling Spray in Double Dutch Apple – After growing tired of struggling to brush my long, fine hair, I went searching for a detangler. This was the only one I managed to find and I’m so glad I did! A few sprays on my tangly hair and it’s manageable and silky.

3. mark. Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint – While not technically found in the drugstore, this cream blush is still a great deal! I rediscovered these in my makeup drawer recently and have been combining two of the colors (Cheeky and Peachy) to make a custom, peachy-pink blush.

p_best_blushes_p18

4. NYC In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in Water Street Blue – I’m all about saving money on trendy, fun nail polish colors. This is the perfect aqua blue that looks great with a summer tan and will definitely have you wishing you were laying on a sandy beach.

5. Wet ‘n’ Wild Color Icon Bronzer in Ticket to Brazil– I picked up this bronzer because I didn’t feel like shelling out the cash for another NARS Laguna bronzer. I love that it has SPF 15 in it and it’s so cheap you can just it as an all-over body bronzer without feeling like you’re wasting money.

Hopefully this list inspired you to check out the beauty aisle the next time you’re at the drugstore. What do you do to save money on beauty items? Tell me in the comments section!
