1.Glossier Boy Brow – If you saw my Glossier review (and this post about my trip to the Glossier showroom) then this favorite is no surprise. Boy Brow is one of those rare products that’s quick and easy to use and actually delivers on its promise of giving you enviable brows. I have the shade Brown but it also comes in Blond, Black and Clear.

2. Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation—After hearing rave reviews on this foundation, I finally picked one up and there’s definitely a reason this foundation has amassed so many positive reviews. It gives full coverage but doesn’t look heavy, it has great staying power, and it’s completely affordable.

3. Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk—Are we surprised that another Glossier product made it into my May Favorites? This cream blush is another gem I picked up during my trip to the Glossier showroom and I can’t stop using it. It blends easily into the skin and the color is a beautiful bronzey, mauvey shade that works with any look. Needless to say, I’m completely obsessed with it.

4. Vans Sk8-Hi Slim Cutout DX shoes—Let’s get one thing straight—when it comes to fashion, I’m all about comfort. When I’m running around the city, the last thing I want to be worried about is whether my footwear is comfortable. These high-top Vans are super comfy and they work with any outfit. If you’re looking for a good summer sneaker, I highly recommend picking up a pair of Vans!

A Tale of Two Highlighters

Once upon a time, there was a young maiden who thought her skin looked dull and drab. She craved a golden glow so off to the market she went. After scouring the shelves she came across two bargain products, one a liquid highlighter and the other a powder.

What were these two products you ask? L’Oreal’s True Match Lumi Powder Glow Illuminator and True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator.

index

When the time came to test these two highlighters, the young maiden tried the liquid product first. She was pleased to find that it was easy to apply, blendable, and offered the natural, golden glow she craved. The subtle sheen lasted all day and into the night without any trouble.

Next came the powder product. Just like the liquid version, it applied very easily but did not impart the same golden sheen. The young maiden also noticed a few flecks of glitter which wasn’t terrible but not the look she wanted.

Layered together, the maiden found a winning combination for a night out as the liquid highlight stayed put and the powder added an extra pop of shimmer.

Overall, the liquid highlighter was much preferred to the powder due to the beautiful golden sheen and staying power it offered.

Now that the young maiden has found herself a beautiful highlighter, she is sure to live happily ever after…

Product Review: Maybelline Fit Me! Matte and Poreless Foundation

unnamedAs someone who reads beauty blogs and product reviews like they’re going out of style, I put a lot of stock in what other people say about certain products. One of the products I’ve heard a lot about lately is the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte and Poreless Foundation.

As the name says, this makeup claims to keep your skin looking matte, natural and
even. Who doesn’t want that? I knew this was a foundation I wanted to try and picked it up on my last trip to Target.

First, let’s start with the price—it’s amazingly affordable, even for a drugstore item. No buyer’s remorse here!

Now, about the actual product. This is a liquid makeup and the bottle does not come with a pump so proceed carefully. The makeup blends very well into the skin and offers light medium coverage while still looking natural.

This foundation wore great throughout the day and the coverage lasted from morning to evening. I barely had any oiliness peek through so I’d say this product lives up to its claim of being “matte and poreless.”

Overall, I give this Maybelline makeup a big, big thumbs up! I look forward to wearing it again and definitely recommend it.

Product Review: L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

14741799_201309031522Since my last mascara review several months ago, I’ve branched out and tried a few different mascaras. The latest one I’ve tried is the much buzzed-about L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

There have been many mixed reviews on this particular product, so I figured the only true way to know if it was any good was to try it myself.

This mascara features a unique, asymmetrical wand, referred to by L’Oreal as the “Butterfly Brush” (see photo below).  The wand’s shape is meant to catch every lash–including those hard-to-reach inner and outer ones. And as someone who always struggles with this (#firstworldproblems, I know), I was excited to find this out.

However, the wand is not the easiest to work with. The whole time I was applying this mascara to my lashes, I was afraid I was going to poke myself in the eye. I did eventually get used to it though, and the effect on my lashes was pretty good!

I also decided to try this mascara out on my lower lashes. While I wasn’t crazy about the brush on my top lashes, it was amazing for my little bottom lashes. The curve of the brush fit very well against the shape of my lower lash line, and the formula was nice and light so my baby lashes weren’t weighed down too much.

Overall, I like this mascara. While the wand takes a bit of getting used to, I don’t regret buying it. I will continue to use it although I may not repurchase in the future. However, if you are ever looking for a good mascara to use on your bottom lashes, I highly recommend this one!

Have you tried this mascara? What other drugstore mascaras should I try out?

February Favorites

OMG it’s been fooooorever since I’ve blogged. Wow. The past couple of weeks have been such a whirlwind and I feel like I haven’t had time to do much at all.

Well anyway, Happy March! Here are my favorites from February:

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Crayon Concealer: I picked this little guy up a while ago and realized I have been reaching for it quite a bit. I love this concealer stick because it is so easy to apply–it’s literally a crayon concealer. The concealer is great for covering under eye circles, redness and blemishes and it blends out very easily.

Sonia Kashuk Eyeshadow Quad in Bronzed Beauty: Ok, I know I’ve already mentioned this product here and here but I am STILL loving it! The lightest shade is pretty on its own but can also be used as an eye shadow base or highlighter. The medium shade looks great on the lid or crease, while the darkest shade is amazing as a liner. And the gold glittery shade? That’s just plain fun! If you want to see a full review on this product, I have one right here–lucky you!

Chella Highlighter Pencil in Ivory Lace: When this highlighting pencil came in my Birchbox a few months back I was a bit skeptical. But now I love it so much! I mainly use it over my under eye concealer to brighten up my face when I’m looking extra tired. It also works in the inner corner of your eye and underneath the brow bone.

Benefit Rockateur Blush: I’ve been wanting to try this blush since it came out. When a coupon for Sephora found its way into my email, I knew it was the right time to get it! It’s such a gorgeous, rosy shade that is very natural looking but still adds just enough color. Plus the packaging is adorable!

Buxom Lip Polish in Dolly: It’s no secret that I’m a lip gloss fanatic. I got this gem in a Sephora sampler and it’s perfect for achieving that “your lips but better” effect. It’s long-lasting and works well with so many different looks. I think once I use up the sample I’ll have to purchase a full size!

Drugstore Beauty Haul

Recently I ended up with a nice little assortment of coupons for CVS. Naturally, I decided to use them on a few beauty items. Here’s what I picked up:

IMG_3648

1. Wet ‘n Wild Mega Glo Illuminating Powder in Catwalk Pink: The pretty pink and bronze colors in this product really caught my eye. It creates a beautiful, natural looking blush, but can also be used all over your face and body. Plus, this is a great multi-tasking product. The bronze color looks great as an eye shadow, the lightest shade can be used alone as a highlighter, and the pink colors make a pretty, rosy blush color!

2. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait: As someone who owns TONS of lip products (I know I’m not alone), I usually try to resist buying more. However, this product is a little different than the dozen (ok, two dozen) glosses and balms I already own. It looks like lipstick, but offers a more sheer, buildable color payoff. And it offers plenty of shine–perfect for a lip glossaholic like me. I’m already planning on picking up a few more colors!

3. Revlon ColorBurst Lip Gloss in Rosepearl: Yes, I know I just said I try not to buy lip products, but all the Revlon product were buy one, get one 50% off, so you know I had to pick out another gloss! I’m a big fan of the ColorBurst Lip Glosses, and this is a rosy, bronzy color that I totally fell in love with. It also looks great layered over the ColorBurst Lip Butter I picked up.

4. Wet ‘n Wild Fergie Nail Polish in Tonight’s Gonna Be a Good Night: I’ve been eyeing this color for a while, but I couldn’t justify spending so much on a product by Wet ‘n Wild. However, once I saw this polish on sale for 40% off, I knew I had to get it. It’ll look great layered over a dark or nude polish.

5. NYC In a New York Color Minute Nail Polish in Manhattan: I’ve mentioned this line of nail polish in a previous post, and it was also 40% off. This particular shade is a dark plum color (my favorite!) that was made for the fall season! I’m already rocking it on my nails and I absolutely love it!

6. Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat: I’ve raved about this product before, so being able to buy it with coupons was a no-brainer–thanks, CVS!

Have you tried any of these products? What are some of your favorite drugstore beauty products?

September Favorites (& One UnFavorite!)

Well here we are, another month is coming to an end! Although I love the summer months, I have to say, I’m actually looking forward to the upcoming cooler weather. This month, I tried out lots of new products and found several winners. Read on to find out what products were hits, and which product was a total miss!

IMG_3467

1. L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Makeup: I recently purchased this foundation at Target after reading some good reviews about it. After trying the product, I wrote my own review on it. Obviously, I really like it since it is in my Favorites this month. It offers just enough coverage for my skin, and if I need a little more coverage, it is very buildable. Since this foundation is a liquid to powder formula, it dries to a nice matte finish, but I still look like I have fresh, healthy skin.

IMG_34622. L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush: This product was a total impulse purchase. After picking out the Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation, I was browsing the other L’Oreal makeup and this one caught my eye. It’s a bronzey, rose gold color (check out my attempt at a swatch on the left–I promise it looks better in person!) that is shimmery and looks so beautiful on the skin. I’ve been wearing it constantly as an eye shadow or liner. However, my favorite way to wear this shadow is on my lower lashline and smudging it out to create a smoky effect. It’s creaseless and lasts all day without budging! Buy it!

3. Maybelline Volum’ Express One by One Mascara: This is another product I’ve previously reviewed, and I couldn’t resist adding it to my Favorites list this month. I’ve tried so many different drugstore and high-end mascaras, but I keep going back to this one. It volumizes my lashes and doesn’t clump at all. Also, if you’re into layering your mascaras, this one works great as a base coat.

IMG_34684. Trader Joe’s Pomegranate White Tea: I’ve been getting into drinking tea recently, and picked this up on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s. I normally drink green teas, so this white tea was new for me. I don’t add any sugar or honey to my tea and this particular flavor is delicious. And it’s pink, so what’s not to like?

5. Nivea Sun-Kissed Radiance Gradual Tanner: Although I like being nice and bronzed, I try to limit my sun exposure. For that reason, I’ve tried out many different sunless tanners in the hopes of achieving that perfect summer glow. I’m a big fan of gradual tanners because they’re pretty much foolproof. However, they don’t always smell the best. What I love about this gradual tanner from Nivea is its fresh, citrus scent. I can put it on in the morning, do my thing all day, and not even catch a whiff of that telltale sunless tanner scent. It’s a miracle!

6. NYC Smooth Skin Loose Translucent Face Powder: I used to use loose powder all the time, and when I decided I wanted a translucent powder, I decided to try this one out. It was only a few dollars and I absolutely love it! Since it’s translucent, I don’t have to worry about it matching my skin tone exactly. I also feel like it keeps my skin looking matte longer than a regular pressed powder. Plus, did I mention it’s only a few dollars? It’s a little messy so I wouldn’t recommend it for travel, but it’s perfect to use at home to keep your makeup in place.

My September UnFavorite:

Sally Hansen Wax Kit: I picked this kit up after reading good reviews on it. I’ve never tried waxing because it really hurts (obviously) but this one claimed to be pain-free because of a pre-wax treatment that numbs the skin. I decided to try it out and, after reading and following all the directions to a tee, it still hurt like a mother. I didn’t expect it to be completely pain-free, but man, did it hurt! And on top of that, it left my skin red and irritated for several days. I tried it again a couple days later and had the same outcome. Do yourself a favor and don’t get this product. Unless you like having painfully irritated, red skin. Ouch.
