March Favorites

Happy Spring! Or, if you’re like me, you’re still waiting for spring and wondering if it will ever stop snowing.

While I wait for the sun to come out, I’ve taken some time to try out a few new products and go back to an old favorite. Read on to see what I was loving during the month of March!

  1. Glossier Solution – It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Glossier. However, I was skeptical about Solution when my roommate purchased it and had a bad reaction. She let me try it out and I’m happy to report I’ve been using it for about a month with no issues. I use the toner every night and my skin feels smoother and I haven’t had a single breakout.
  2. Zoya Nail Polish in Kennedy – I discovered this color while treating myself to a manicure months ago. I loved it so much I had to purchase it for at-home manicures and have been using it religiously ever since. This shade is a beautiful nude that always makes me feel a bit more put together.
  3. OLEHENRIKSEN Transforming Walnut Scrub – One of my favorite skin care treatments is scrubs. This particular one was included in a recent Sephora gift-with-purchase and I’ve really enjoyed using it. It contains walnut powder and is gentle enough to be used several times a week.
  4. Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Cream – I grew up watching my mom apply her Olay products every day so it’s no surprise that I now use them (and occasionally borrow hers when I’m home!). I’ve tried many high end facial creams but continue going back to this affordable option. I use it every night and wake up with soft, hydrated skin.

Visiting the Glossier Showroom

One of the things I love about living in New York City is that there’s always something cool to experience. If you’re makeup-obsessed like me, one thing you have to do is visit the Glossier showroom.

I’ve followed Glossier for a while and have always wanted to try their products. So, one Sunday I took a trip down to their showroom to try out a few of their products.

Once inside the Glossier building (located at 123 Lafayette Street in Manhattan), you’ll take the elevator up to the penthouse where you’re greeted by the most Instagram-worthy space imaginable.

From skin care to makeup, the Glossier showroom has it all. I tried out quite a few of their products including the Milky Jelly Cleanser, Priming Moisturizer, Stretch Concealer, Boy Brow and Generation G. It was so great (and fun) to try everything before making a purchase, which you know I had to do!

I ended up going home with the Perfecting Skin Tint, Boy Brow, Generation G, and Cloud Paint. Stay tuned for a review on these products and definitely stop by the Glossier showroom if you’re in the NYC area!

Updated Nighttime Skincare Routine

As I get older (the big 2-9 is fast approaching), I’ve made an effort to up my skincare game. I posted a night time skin care routine last year, but have since made quite a few changes.

My skin is somewhat oily and breakout prone but I’m also working to prevent signs of aging. My current routine is the perfect amount of acne fighting and fine line prevention and I’ve really been loving my skin lately.

Below is my full night time skin care routine. It might seem a bit excessive but it works. I’ll admit I don’t do all these steps every night, but when I do, I can definitely tell a difference in my skin.

skincare-copy-1

  1. Cleansing Balm: When I feel like I’ve really caked on my makeup, I count on Clinique’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm to remove every ounce of makeup. It takes off everything from foundation to mascara and I couldn’t be happier with it.
  2. Cleanser: I’m a big fan of Neutrogena’s cleansers and am currently using their Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser. It smells amazing and leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh.
  3. Toner: This Acne Stress Control Triple-Action Toner is yet another Neutrogena product I love. I use it day and night to get my skin squeaky clean and prevent future breakouts. I really think it’s made a difference in the amount of breakouts I’ve had and I highly recommend it.
  4. Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil: I know. This retinol face oil is crazy expensive. However, purchase this set for a bit of a price break and give it a try. I’ve used this sleeping oil for a few months and have noticed such an improvement in my skin. Trust me, it’s worth the investment.
  5. Moisturizer: After letting the Sunday Riley oil sink in for a few minutes, I apply a bit of the Olay Regenerist Sculpting Face Cream to my face and neck. It’s affordable and moisturizes the skin without causing breakouts.
  6. Eye Cream: I recently came across the Glow by Dr. Brandt Revitalizing Retinol Eye Cream and I’m obsessed with it. It contains retinol and mosturizes the eye area while preventing and reducing fine lines.
  7. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate: Finally, after all the above mentioned products have had time to sink in, I pat this oil on my face to seal everything in. It can also be used on your hands, feet, or in a warm bath.

What are your favorite skin care products?

October Favorites

The first week of November is officially in the books (can you believe it?!) and I’m finally sitting down to think about my favorite products from the last month. I’ll admit that 2016 has been a bit of a blur for me so it’s been difficult to take time to focus on things like beauty products. With that in mind, here are a few of the things I’ve been loving over the last month.

unnamed-1

Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup – I received this foundation as a sample and loved it so much I purchased the full-sized product. This makeup is lightweight and offers light to medium coverage. I love that it still looks like skin and it doesn’t even feel like wearing makeup.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil – I’ve used this retinoid oil for a couple months and am really starting to see some great results. My skin’s texture is smoother, my pores seem smaller and I haven’t been breaking out like I used to. This product is definitely an investment but if you purchase this set you can try the Luna Sleeping Night oil and another Sunday Riley product for a little bit cheaper.

Rimmel London ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara – I picked this mascara up because I heard it was a good dupe for my beloved Too Faced mascara. While I’m not sure it’s quite as amazing as that mascara it does a good job of volumizing lashes and doesn’t flake throughout the day.

Illuminate by Ashley Tisdale 12 Color Eye & Cheek Collection in Beach Goddess – I did a full review on this palette recently and am happy to report that I still love it just as much as I did when I wrote that review. It’s got all the colors I need for any eye look and also includes a beautiful highlighter and bronzer.

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Smoky Topaz  – I’ve had this Revlon gloss for a while but just recently became obsessed with it. It’s a beautiful pink nude that complements any look and is extremely wearable. I’m a big fan of Revlon’s lip glosses and this one definitely delivers.

Product Review: Rodan and Fields Unblemish

Lately the struggle with my skin has been so real. Nothing I’ve tried has done much to control my oiliness and breakouts. Needless to say it’s very frustrating. So when a friend of mine started selling Rodan and Fields, I decided to give it a go.

unnamed

I purchased the Unblemish regimen and have just started using it. The entire regimen comes with an Acne Treatment Sulfur Wash, Spot Fading Toner, Dual Intensive Acne Treatment and Oil Control Lotion.

Although I’ve only been using these products for a couple of days, I really like them so far. The sulfur wash leaves my skin feeling clean but not dried out and I’m excited to see if the Spot Fading Toner helps lighten up any post-acne marks I have. I also like how much product comes in the Dual Intensive Acne Treatment and the Oil Control Lotion really seems to do what it says–control oil.

As I continue to use these products I’ll continue to post reviews. Have any of you tried these products? Let me know in the Comments section below!

Lust List + 100th Post!

Since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner (and since my one true love right now is makeup), it’s only appropriate that today’s post is about the products I’m currently lusting over.

lustlist

e.l.f. High Definition Undereye Setting Powder: I recently started using the e.l.f. High Definition Translucent Powder, and this Undereye Setting Powder is next on my list to try!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate: Let’s face it, we’re not getting any younger and I’m all about preventative skin care. I’ve been loving facial oils lately and I’ve heard this elixir is a great one!

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado: I’m on a never-ending quest for the perfect eye cream. This is one that looks promising without breaking the bank! And it doesn’t hurt that I’m constantly craving guacamole…

Unite Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner: I’ve been wanting to step up my hair care game and this shampoo and conditioner duo might be just the thing.

Charlotte Tilbury FIlmstar Bronze and Glow: The packaging of this highlighter and bronzer set is so gorgeous. And the product inside looks to be just as gorgeous!

Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm: I’m a sucker for lip products of any kind and this one is so luxurious!

“Bitch Please” Necklace: What can I say? This necklace is the perfect accessory for the sassy cynic. AKA me.

What are you currently lusting over? Have you tried any of these products? Tell me in the Comments section so I can lust over them too!

Side note: This is officially my 100th post on That Tall Girl and I just want to give a quick thank you to all of you reading this now. Thank you SO much for all the kind words, support, and motivation. You are the reason I keep coming back to blog! XO!

2014 Beauty Favorites

As your calendar has probably told you by now, 2014 is a distant memory and 2015 is here and ready to paaaarrrtyyy! However, I’ve still got a few things from 2014 on the brain including a few of my favorite products. Read on to see what I was loving throughout 2014…

Face

s1393370-main-heroTarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Full Coverage Foundation: Foundations come and go, but if I had to choose just one to use, it would be this one from Tarte. It offers amazing coverage but doesn’t leave you looking like you’ve piled on pounds of makeup. It’s not cheap but it’s definitely worth the investment! If you’re looking for a more affordable foundation, you can see my two drugstore favorites here and here.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer: I re-discovered this gem in 2014 and I don’t know what I did for so long without it! First of all, it’s ridiculously affordable. It also offers great coverage without creasing and is a breeze to apply.

Eyes

L’Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Eye Shadow in Amber Rush: Just look at this swatch. Need I say more? This color is absolutely gorgeous and it lasts and lasts without creasing. Another brilliant drugstore find!

Nyx Studio Liquid Liner in Coffee: I’ve sung the praises of this liquid liner before and I don’t see myself falling out of love with it any time soon. The skinny brush applicator makes it easy to use and the color is so unique and complements any look I’m going for.

31D27qGfp1L._SY300_

Lips

ChapStick: For day to day, I tend to keep things pretty boring basic simple and stick to plain ol’ Chapstick. It’s low maintenance and I don’t have to worry about it wearing off on the numerous cups of coffee/tea/water I consume in a day. However, when I’m feeling fancy, I reach for…

Stila Lip Glaze: This has everything I need in a lip gloss: it lasts a long time, it’s easy to apply, and the color selection is beautiful. What’s not to love?

Skin

cetaphil-oil-control-moisturizerCetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Moisturizer: This might be my favorite find from 2014. This moisturizer from Cetaphil is lightweight so it’s perfect for oily skin, but it packs an SPF of 30 and I’m totally obsessed.

Tools

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge: I’ll be honest, I can’t stand applying my foundation with a sponge. I left that technique behind in my middle school days, but this applicator from Real Techniques has become my go-to for blending out my under eye concealer. If you want to try out a Beauty Blender-like product but don’t want to make the monetary investment, I definitely recommend this one!

BH Cosmetics Duo Fiber Stippling Brush: Where has this brush been all my life? It’s nothing special but I love using it after applying bronzer and blush to blend everything together. Plus, it’s a bargain!

So now that I’ve officially closed the book on my favorite products of 2014, I’m ready to start 2015 and hopefully discover a few more favorites. In fact, I may have already found some. Stay tuned!

Beauty and Fashion Haul!

If you saw this post, then you know I picked up a few things recently from Old Navy. And of course I couldn’t stop there. I also got a few skincare items from Sephora and a major necklace from BaubleBar.

Here’s a quick roundup of the beauty and fashion items I’ve gotten lately:

IMG_5726 2

Let’s start with the fashion–

I purchased this grey and white striped oxford shirt to wear to work. However, it also looks great dressed down with jeans and a blazer. Plus, the quality of this shirt is really nice–I was impressed!

I’m absolutely obsessed with this tan bucket bag! It holds all my stuff and the strap is long enough to wear as a cross body (which I love).

These ankle boots were such a great clearance find! I wore them all weekend with jeans, but they would also work with dresses or shorts for summer. I like them so much, I picked up a second pair!

This bib necklace from BaubleBar pretty much speaks for itself. It’s such a statement piece, and I’m so excited to pair it with different outfits! Plus I had a BaubleBar coupon to use, and ended up getting a really good deal on it!

And if you saw this “What I’m Loving” post, you know I’ve been dying for a pair of mirrored sunglasses. I didn’t want to drop the cash on mirrored Ray-Bans, so when I saw this pair of sunnies in a local boutique, I knew I had to grab ’em.

Now let’s get on to the beauty–

Sephora offered a VIB discount recently, so I decided to pick up a couple of skincare items. First, I got the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser. It’s a great cleanser for removing makeup and doesn’t dry out my skin. I have also heard great things about the Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream and decided I might as well get that too. I haven’t tried it yet but am very excited to use it!

I’m a sucker for neutral eye shadows, so when I saw this palette from Maybelline, I had to get it. The colors are pretty and subtle and all go together beautifully!

February Birchbox

This month, in honor of awards season, Birchbox partnered with Us Weekly to reveal all kinds of red carpet secrets. As someone who cares a lot more about watching the red carpet than the actual awards shows, I’m very excited about this. I can’t wait to see what this partnership has in store for the month of February!

Here’s what I got in my Birchbox:

photo-15

Paula’s Choice RESIST Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum: This is an anti-aging serum that claims to tighten pores, fight lines and wrinkles, and soothe skin. I’m not sure I’ll be able to see those results from just one sample, but it can’t hurt!

SARAHPOTEMPA The HALF-UP: This spongey little tool is used to create different hairstyles like a top knot or low bun. While I’m not one to wear my hair up a lot, this will probably come in handy over the summer while at the beach or pool.

W3LL PEOPLE Universalist Multi-Use Color Stick in Dusty Rose: This beautiful rosy pink makeup stick is multi-purpose. You can use it on your eyes, lips, and cheeks–who doesn’t love that? It’s definitely the perfect color for spring and I’m so excited to use it!

Whish Three Whishes Body Butter: This body butter by Whish is packed with antioxidants to soften and smooth skin. It smells great and is the perfect way to treat skin during the cold winter months.

Harney & Sons Fine Teas in Paris and White Vanilla Grapefruit: I’ve definitely turned into a tea junkie so I was very excited to see this in my Birchbox. The Paris flavor is a fruity black tea while the White Vanilla Grapefruit flavor is a white tea.

October Birchbox!

I absolutely love seeing what everyone else gets in their Birchboxes, so I thought it was time to share what I got in my October Birchbox. This month’s Birchbox is all about 2013’s top beauty products and trends. Some of the products I received were winners, and some just weren’t for me.

photo-11

Alison Raffaele Reality Base Foundation: This is an oil-free, light coverage foundation that is full of antioxidants. I’m always on the search for the perfect foundation, so I like trying new ones. However, I don’t think this one is for me. The coverage quite isn’t quite enough, but it’ll be nice to have on hand when I’m having a particularly good skin day! I prefer my Jouer Matte Moisture Tint or L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Makeup.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser: I’m all about skin care, so I was very excited to get this in my Birchbox this month. Liz Earle is a brand from the UK that just recently became available through Birchbox, and this cleanser is one of their best-selling products. It’s creamy and leaves my skin feeling so clean and soft.

Liz Earle Pure Muslin Cloth: This cloth is meant to be used with the Liz Earle cleanser as a gentle exfoliator. Once I run out of the Liz Earle cleanser, I’ll probably continue to use it with my regular cleanser.

POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer in Flowering Fuchsia: I’m definitely a lip gloss kind of girl and I always like trying new ones. This is the first POP Beauty product I’ve ever used and I really like the consistency of this gloss. While the fuchsia color wouldn’t usually be my first choice, the color is sheer enough that it doesn’t look too pink on me. However, if I ever did want to pull off Barbie pink lips, this product is nice and buildable.

ChapStick Hydration Lock lip balm: I will openly admit that I’m a ChapStick addict. If I ever find myself in a situation without ChapStick, I don’t even know what to do with myself. Seriously. This ChapStick doesn’t work as well for me as I had hoped, but it’ll be nice to have on hand if I ever do find myself in a ChapStick-less situation (God forbid).

If you have an October Birchbox post on your blog, share it with me in the Comments section below!
