What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag

If you follow That Tall Girl on Facebook, you know I’m about to head out on a fun vacation to California. While I haven’t started packing yet (ahh!) I do know what beauty products I’ll be taking with me. Read on to find out what my travel must-haves are.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation: When I’m traveling I want a foundation that’s going to cover any imperfections, look natural and last all day and into the night. This Tarte foundation does it all! Plus the packaging is super convenient and won’t end up breaking during a long trip.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer: Like my foundation, I want my concealer to last while I’m out and about seeing the sights. MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer does just that while covering everything from dark circles to blemishes.

Mark Powder Buff Natural Skin Foundation: This powder is a staple in my makeup bag (as see can see in the photo above!) so I can’t leave home without it. It does double duty as a powder foundation and mattifying powder and the packaging is great for on-the-go.

Ulta Contour Kit: If you’ve read my blog in the last couple months you know how obsessed I’ve been with this contour kit from Ulta. I’ll be using the contour shades for contouring (duh), bronzer and eye shadow. The lighter, slightly shimmery shades are also great for eye shadows or highlighting.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner: Another staple, this eye liner works for any look and can be easily smoked out for a little more drama. Since I don’t want to deal with traveling with liquid liner this guy is coming with me!

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mini Mascara: I picked this up at Ulta and am so glad to have a travel friendly version of my favorite mascara. It volumizes lashes and adds the perfect amount of lash drama.

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso: I’ve raved about the Milani baked blushes before and this shade is so versatile. It makes my skin look bright and fresh and works well with any look.

Vacation Haul!

Oh hey! I’ve been up since 4:00 this morning traveling home from Chicago. I had a great vacation there (stay tuned for more on that) and of course ended up doing some shopping. Read on for a quick haul of the beauty and fashion items I picked up.

Merona striped top: You know I had to check out Target while I was in a new city. I picked up this cute shirt and can’t wait to pair it with jeans, boots, and a cozy scarf!

Sam & Libby Peyton Ankle Boots: Also from Target, these boots will be a fall staple. They’re super comfy and a good neutral color.

Teal Flask: Call me crazy, but I’ve been wanting a cute flask for a while. I spotted this one at Neiman Marcus Last Call and knew it was the one!

Travel size dry shampoo: Dry shampoo is a major staple for me so I couldn’t resist picking up another travel size one. This one by Tresemmé isn’t my favorite, but it’s all I could find in the travel section.

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze: I’ve heard such great things about this cream shadow and was thrilled to finally find it in stock somewhere. Because I definitely needed more eye shadow. Nope…

NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Coffee: This is my favorite liquid liner and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere near me. I happened across it at Nordstrom Rack and picked up a couple tubes!

Stila Sun Goddess Smudge Stick Duo eye liner: I love buying Stila liners at Nordstrom Rack. They’re my favorite liners and you can find great deals on them. This pack comes with a blackish brown color and a metallic golden bronze.

White and gold druzy necklace: I’m so in love with this long necklace from Nordstrom Rack. I wore it every day while on vacation and it goes perfectly with any outfit.

Product Review: Stila Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector

Now that “No Spending July and August“ is officially over, I thought I’d treat myself to a new high end foundation. There’s been a lot of buzz about Stila’s new Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector and I thought I’d try it out.

This product is pretty different from anything else out there. It’s not a liquid. It’s not a powder. This foundation has a bouncy, putty-like texture with a matte finish that is supposed to disappear into your skin. It also comes with a small sponge so it can also be used for touch ups on the go.

My first impression of this foundation was awesome. I used the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to apply it and the product blended into my skin really well and did a decent job of covering any redness or blemishes. I still had to use a bit of concealer on top in certain areas but that was to be expected.

Throughout the day, though, I felt like my skin was looking a little bit oily. I used this product for touch ups as suggested and I thought it started to look a little bit caked on by the end of the day. I didn’t think it looked very natural and I just wasn’t impressed.

I continued to test out this product for a couple days and while I didn’t have quite as much oiliness, I still wasn’t thrilled with it. I decided to compare this high end product to one of my favorite drugstore foundations, L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder makeup since they are both supposed to give a light, natural finish. I honestly preferred the look of the cheaper L’Oreal product!

Although this product wasn’t a hit with me, I think it’s definitely worth trying since it is such a unique product. I think it would be great to travel with since you wouldn’t have to worry about the product spilling or breaking. However, I think I will be returning it. For the price and amount of product, it just wasn’t worth it.
